Mal ein Versuch auf englisch (weil ich dies ganz gerne noch streuen wollte):
Unfortunately, the 70 mm roadshow quality of this film produced in large Technirama format has not been saved for the new digital age. In a completely unacceptable manner, poor reprints have been used.
Back in the 1970s, for example, "El Cid" was dubbed from a reduced anamorphic 35 mm Technicolor print to an Internegative: not even half the picture content of the original negative. From this source, another Interpositive and, for a Miramax screening under the benevolence of Martin Scorsese, a normal dub negative for the production of a 35 mm theater print on the occasion of a performance in the Cinarama Dome in L.A. with a rather meager Dolby A soundtrack.
The HD digisates for television and Blu-ray Disc broadcasts have been produced from these poor sources: wrong and suffering contrasts, distorted colors, coarse grain and washed-out images.
It's time to restore the true value of this masterpiece to its original look. (Instead of modern hypes around the roadshows or so called 70mm efforts produced for Villeneuve or Nolan productions with sad results)
